How a Removal Goes
A crew looks at which way the tree leans, where the weight sits and what is under it: roof, fence, pool, wires or a neighbor's yard. Then they pick a method. In an open yard they may fell the tree in one piece. Near buildings they climb and lower it in sections on ropes. If the tree is too large or too close for that, a crane lifts the pieces.
What Is and Is Not Included
Ask whether the quote covers hauling away the logs and brush, raking up, and the stump. Some crews cut the tree and leave the wood. Others haul everything. Stump grinding is nearly always priced separately, see stump grinding.
What Moves the Price
- Height and trunk width
- How close the tree is to the house, wires and fences
- Whether a truck can reach it or the wood has to be carried out
- Dead or storm damaged wood, which is riskier to cut
- Haul away, wood chips and stump work

Before You Say Yes
Get at least two written quotes. Ask for proof of liability insurance and workers' compensation. A cheap quote from an uninsured crew can cost you far more if something lands on your house. See how to hire a tree service.
